These are two radically different views on the origin, structure, and evolution of the Universe. One is scientific and mathematical (though speculative), the other is spiritual, mystical, and symbolic.
1. M-Theory Cosmology
M-Theory is the leading current candidate for a “Theory of Everything” in theoretical physics. Proposed by Edward Witten in 1995, it unifies the five consistent versions of string theory (superstrings) into a broader framework that lives in 11 dimensions (10 spatial + 1 temporal). Main cosmological ideas:
> Extra dimensions: Our 4D universe (3 space + 1 time) would be a “brane” (membrane) in a higher-dimensional space. The other dimensions can be compacted (very small) or extended. Branes and collisions: Models such as ekpyrotic cosmology (proposed by Steinhardt and Turok) suggest that the Big Bang was not the absolute beginning, but the result of a collision between two parallel branes in a 5-dimensional (or more) space. The universe could be cyclical: contraction → collision (Big Bang) → expansion → repetition.
> Multiverse: M-Theory allows for a “landscape” with a huge number of possible universes (10^500 or more), each with different physical constants. Our universe would be one among many.
> Inflation and alternatives: Includes cosmic inflation, but also offers alternatives without classical inflation. Involves black holes, dualities, supergravity, and membranes.
> Status: It is highly mathematical and consistent, but has no direct experimental evidence yet. It is indirectly testable via gravitational waves, supersymmetric particles, or high-energy cosmology. Stephen Hawking and others saw it as the best hope for unifying quantum gravity with the other forces.
M-Theory is materialistic and reductionist in the scientific sense: everything arises from string/membrane vibrations, geometry, and quantum equations.
2. Esoteric Cosmology
Esoteric cosmology refers to spiritual and occult traditions that describe the Universe in terms of planes of existence, evolution of consciousness, divine emanation, and spiritual cycles. It is not a single theory, but a set of views present in: Theosophy (Blavatsky, Steiner) Kabbalah, Sufism, Alchemy, Gnosticism Esoteric astrology, Rosicrucianism, etc. Modern thinkers such as Rudolf Steiner (in An Esoteric Cosmology) or Eastern traditions (Vedanta, Esoteric Buddhism).
Central ideas:
> Multiple planes: The visible (physical) universe is only the densest plane. There are etheric, astral, mental, causal, and higher spiritual planes.
> Emanation and involution: The cosmos arises from a Divine Principle (Absolute, Brahman, Ain Soph) through emanation. There is a “fall” or involution of consciousness into matter, followed by spiritual evolution (epigenesis).
> Cycles and hierarchies: Great cycles (manvantaras, days and nights of Brahma), planetary chains, elemental kingdoms, angels, archangels, etc.
> Microcosm-Macrocosm: The human being is a reflection of the Universe (“as above, so below”).
> Purpose: Evolution is not random or purely physical, but has a spiritual objective—the development of consciousness, love, wisdom, and return to the Divine.
It is symbolic, initiatory, and experiential, based on revelation, meditation, and occult knowledge, not on experiments.
3. Comparison – Aspect
> M-Theory (Scientific)
Dimensions: 11 physical/mathematical dimensions
Origin: Strings/membranes, collisions, multiverse
Big Bang: Possible brane collision or inflation
Time: A consequence of other dimensions.
Evolution: Physical, random + anthropic selection
Method: Mathematical, experiments
Testability: Indirect (future)
> Esoteric Cosmology
Dimensions: Multiple overlapping planes
Origin: Divine emanation, Logos, Absolute
Big Bang: Beginning of a cycle of manifestation
Time: A variable and non-linear sequence
Evolution: Spiritual, teleological (purposeful)
Method: Intuition, initiation, symbols, myths
Testability: Personal/experiential Dimensions
4. Interesting points of contact
Some physicists and esotericists see parallels: Extra dimensions of M-Theory resemble esoteric “planes”.
The multiverse may echo the idea of multiple spheres of existence.
The geometry and symmetries of M-Theory have an almost “Pythagorean” or Kabbalistic flavor.
Time as a dimension is non-Euclidean in both cases.
However, science demands empirical evidence and falsifiability, while esotericism prioritizes meaning, inner transformation, and perennial wisdom.
5. Interaction with entities from other planes in esotericism:
Among the astral entities to which requests are popularly made is Maria Padilha das Almas (Pomba Gira), a feminine archetype of protection. Maria de Padilla (September 15, 1334 – Seville, July 1361) was the morganatic wife of King Pedro I of Castile. She had the title recognized after her death at his own request. She was the daughter of Juan Garcia de Padilla and Maria González de Henestrosa, two servants of the royal court. Being the lover of King Pedro I, she began to influence him in the most important decisions. It was thanks to Maria de Padilla that Pedro I chose to govern as an autocrat supported by the people.
In mysticism: It is a phalanx of Pombagiras (or Inzilas), spirits of women who lived intense and transgressive lives, returning to help through wisdom and feminine strength, known as “Lady of the Night,” “Queen of the Crossroads,” or “Lady of the Paths.”
Maria Padilha is a complex entity, representing feminine power, freedom, and wisdom to deal with life’s adversities, being a figure of great light and respect in Afro-Latin spirituality.
Conclusion:
M-Theory is a mathematical framework of theoretical physics that attempts to unify all the fundamental forces of nature. It postulates a universe with 11 dimensions (10 spatial and 1 temporal) and proposes that matter is formed by vibrating strings and membranes (branes). In it, the Big Bang can be explained by the collision between two branes in a multidimensional space.
Esoteric Cosmology, on the other hand, is based on philosophical and spiritual traditions (such as Eastern mysticism, Kabbalah, and Theosophy). This perspective posits that physical reality is merely the densest layer of a hierarchy of subtle worlds and planes of existence, where the evolution of consciousness is the central driving force of the cosmos.
Points of Convergence and Divergence
> Dimensions and Planes: M-Theory deals with additional compacted or imperceptible physical dimensions. Esotericism conceptualizes “dimensions” as higher, invisible vibrational states of consciousness.
> Vibrational Structure: In M-Theory, everything emanates from the vibration of mathematical strings. In many esoteric cosmologies (such as the concept of Primordial Sound), creation also originates from energetic vibrations and frequencies.
> The Multiverse: M-Theory supports the existence of a multiverse with countless physical laws. Esotericism has long described parallel “planes” or “worlds” that coexist in the same physical space, each with distinct properties.
> Time: Is neither linear nor consequential in either case, just as space is not of Euclidean geometry.
> Nature of Reality: The major divergence lies in method and causality. The scientific cosmology of M-Theory is based on mathematical equations and models subject to future empirical validation. Esoteric cosmology is metaphysical and spiritual in nature, focused on personal experience and transcendence.
